These dainty, handmade, Turquoise inlay studs take a lot of talent and skill to make. The artist has to understand silversmithing and all that goes into it.

Our Diné have been known for their silversmithing skills since they began forging coins in the prison camp in 1864-1868.

This rare talent has been passed down from generation to generation and we are lucky enough to get to benefit from Alta's decision to keep the skill going.

Alta Originals

Alta has been making jewelry since she was a little girl. She credits her mother with teaching her the craft.

Growing up in Yah-Ta-Hey, New Mexico... After school Alta would head to town and sell the jewelry they made.

Continuing to hone her craft... Alta is now teaching her sons.

Alta is a true artist working hard to get the best materials creating beautiful pieces.

Alta is from the Kinyaa’áanii (Towering House) Clan.

Turquoise to our Diné is important.

Representing the "Blue World" it tells the Holy People... "We know where we come from".

Turquoise is a semi-precious stone.

Turquoise is also worn for protection when roaming outside of the sacred mountains.
