Meet Alta... Navajo Jewelry Artist

Alta has been making jewelry since she was a little girl, her hands discovering the joy of crafting under her mother’s patient guidance.

She credits her mother with teaching her the craft, a tradition that began in their home in Yah-Ta-Hey, New Mexico, where Alta would head to town after school to sell the jewelry they made together.

Continuing to hone her craft, Alta is now teaching her sons, passing down the skills with pride.

Alta is a true artist, working hard to source the best materials to create beautiful pieces that reflect her spirit.

Alta is from the Kinyaa’áanii (Towering House) Clan, a heritage she honors with every bead she strings, keeping the Diné legacy alive in her work.

Her specialty lies in crafting exquisite Turquoise earrings and bracelets, each piece showcasing incredible quality that captures the essence of her artistry.

Authentic Turquoise

With only 5 active turquoise mines left in the U.S.—led by the iconic Kingman Mine—much of today’s turquoise comes from past sources. Check the map… your piece may be rarer than you think.
