When the Diné returned, after four years in the prison camp. They were not welcomed home. They were attacked by outsiders that had grown brash in their absence.
These enemies would lie in wait and strike the weakest among them. Kidnapping women and children. Taking them to the south to sell them as slaves.
They would sell the captives and livestock. Wally shares about his grandfather. The first Navajo Marshal. Charged with protecting the Navajo people and their property from bandits.
He was relentless and tracked the bandits like a bloodhound.
Sacrificing his pursuit of joy, happiness, confidence and peace... so his family and other Diné could pursue those things for themselves.
