With the historical narrative becoming diluted more and more as each generation comes along… There is a need for all Native American tribes to take control of their stories.
The message today “We can’t let people make up stories and tell our Native American children what is true about our people. We need to share our stores so our children know the trust and are able to share that trite with their children”.
In this video Navajo historian Wally Brown shares this message and encourages all tribes to share their oral traditions. Not parrot the stories and theories of outsiders with no knowledge of the oral teachings.
To illustrate the importance of sharing… We traveled to Montezuma Castle to share a little about what our Navajo people know.
Each clan had an origin story. Some of those origin stories lead back to these tribes that people say went extinct or disappeared.
This is why the different origin stories of our different tribes and clans are important.
