The key to historical preservation among our people has been the tradition of Winter Stories.

These stories are told every winter and take days to share. The stories hold the history of our people. Both spiritual and temporal.

One of the main characters is the favorite child of the Holy People. The Five-Fingered being.

But the human is symbolically represented in the stories as Coyote.

The coyote is selfish, greedy, stingy, a slave to his appetites… The morals of the stories are to guide our Navajo people to a higher way of life.
