Navajo Teachings on Bullying
When young, our Diné are taught never to bully. This teaching started around the age of 3 or 4 years old. Elders would teach “Don’t provoke this person to anger”, or “make them unhappy”. “Don’t make this person an enemy toward you”.
Elders would get after children when they would see them bullying or picking on another.
When you would be older in your teen years and bullying would occur they would make a special effort and contact the family of the bullied.
Bullying would turn to lying and spreading rumors. This would get out of hand the longer it went unchecked. And would harm society as a whole.
Even to this day it is a very serious teaching.
