"Discipline yourself, or other people will discipline you." That was the warning Wally's grandfather gave him.
Wally shares how he grew up in the family hogan: prayers and a run at dawn in one of the four sacred directions, daily routines, chores, and being responsible and accountable as a child.
Today, many children haven't had that training. They don't listen, they talk back to the parents trying to teach them, and screens and addictions pull them away. The evil one takes something good and twists it into something harmful.
Traditionally you could listen to the women in your family. They would never tell you something that harms you.
We are children of the Holy People, and good habits protect the mind, body, and spirit. Teach your children to discipline themselves early, and keep the language alive, because when we lose the language we lose the culture.
