Navajo Teachings. What Makes You a Surface Being?
It's our clan system that identifies us to other Diné (Navajo People).
This clan system is sometimes confusing. But when understood... it is easy to see how all are connected.
Navajo clans each have an individual history. They also have clues about what part of the continent they come from.
Some clans have a water monster that pulls people under (Alligator).
Another has the giant water serpent (Anaconda).
These clues and the stories of travel lend credence to the oral teachings that the Diné are a diverse group.
People traveled from all over the continent to be among the Diné. Or to become Diné.
