In the traditional teachings of our Diné they say there are certain times the Holy People are on the surface of Mother Earth. You might not ever see fog the same way again.

The teachings say that when there is fog the Holy People are near. The idea is... We (the Five-fingered Being) don't have the ability to see the Holy People. They are beyond our physical senses.

The fog, is perhaps symbolic. Symbolising that we cannot see them but they are near. The same idea goes for the rainbow. The unseen light can represent the Holy People. The light surrounds us but we cannot see it. Only the effects of it. And when it is fractured we can see the colors of the rainbow.
