Playful artistry and timeless craftsmanship come together in this beautifully distinctive necklace. Rich turquoise forms the foundation of the design, while hand-carved mother of pearl birds add unexpected charm and graceful movement throughout the piece. A pair of bright blue birds rests at the center, surrounded by softly colored companions that create a design full of personality without sacrificing elegance. At 23.5 inches, it sits comfortably at the neckline, making it a wonderful everyday statement piece.

The thoughtful mix of materials gives this necklace its unmistakable character. Turquoise contributes vibrant color and natural texture, with every stone showcasing its own unique shape and matrix. The carved mother of pearl birds introduce soft luster and delicate detail, bringing a lighthearted touch while maintaining a refined appearance. Sterling silver accents quietly complete the design, allowing each element to shine without distraction.

Turquoise has been treasured in traditional Navajo jewelry for generations because of its natural beauty and individuality. Every handcrafted piece celebrates the character found in authentic materials, where no two stones are ever exactly alike. By combining turquoise with carefully carved shell, this necklace offers a fresh interpretation of traditional materials while honoring the craftsmanship that has made Navajo jewelry admired for decades.

Created by Navajo artist Darlene Huskie, this necklace reflects nearly 30 years of experience creating jewelry that is thoughtful, distinctive, and timeless. Having learned through her husband's family, Darlene carefully balances color, texture, and natural materials to create designs that feel both artistic and easy to wear. Her work reflects an appreciation for craftsmanship that never goes out of style.

Because authenticity matters, every turquoise piece from Navajo Traditional Teachings includes a Certificate of Authenticity. In a marketplace filled with imported imitations and misleading claims, you can wear your jewelry with confidence, knowing exactly who created it and where it came from.

Meet The Artist

Meet Darlene... Navajo Jewelry Artist

Darlene Huskie is a Navajo jewelry artist with nearly three decades of experience creating hand-strung turquoise necklaces and traditional Diné adornment. Taught within her husband’s family, she carries forward a lineage of beadwork that blends patience, precision, and cultural memory.

Working with turquoise, sterling silver, shell, and glass beads, Darlene carefully selects and arranges each element by hand, allowing color, balance, and natural beauty to guide every design. Her pieces are not mass-produced — each necklace is individually made, reflecting the quiet skill and steady hands of an artist who has spent a lifetime perfecting her craft.

Darlene is of the Nakai Diné Clan, and her work reflects the enduring Navajo tradition of jewelry as both personal adornment and cultural expression.

Authentic Turquoise

With only 5 active turquoise mines left in the U.S.—led by the iconic Kingman Mine—much of today’s turquoise comes from past sources. Check the map… your piece may be rarer than you think.
